5 Unique Elements To Make Your Website More Engaging

When it comes to web design, I often come across websites, especially for those that are DIYing their website, that visually look great but miss out on opportunities in creating a web experience that truly connect and engage with their audience. If you’re going to be investing time and resources into your website then why not get the absolute most from it, right?

Below I’m sharing some of my favourite ways to add more depth and engagement to a simple static website. Some are great ways for adding an additional layer to your lead generation strategy, and others like adding a playlist are a great way to further connect with your clients and create a more personalised experience and way to get to know you.

1. Add a quiz

Adding a quiz like the The Beauty Chef’s “Find Your Remedy” quiz above is a great example on how you can create another avenue to connect with website visitors. It’s a great way to educate users into a product or service by tapping into their pain points, it educates them into understanding what is the right solution for them. A well strategised quiz will resonate, educate, enhances conversion through providing a solution tailored to them, it also provides you unique data that help dictate other areas in your business. My favourite quiz platform that I recommend is Interact, it’s simple and easy to set up, provides a lot of different functionalities depending on what you’re wanting to achieve and also has a tonne of resources to help with set up.

2. Add a scrolling marquee

At times, static websites or those with a more clean and minimalist style can lack a bit of depth or an element of difference. A great way to add more personality is to add animation, more specifically a scrolling marquee like Ouai Haircare’s example above. Scrolling marquees are a great way not only to break up text and image heavy sections on a website but they are an incredibly simple yet effective way to draw attention to Call To Actions or to emphasise anything else that’s currently happening in your business.

Some ideas on how to use a marquee section:

  • reiterate slogans your values or mission in a tagline

  • share special offers and discounts

  • as an announcement think a new launch or offer

You can follow steps to adding a scrolling block to your Squarespace website here.

3. Add a playlist

Creating a playlist is such a fun way to inject more personality into your website. Any element that creates another way to get to know you and your business is a win. Creating a playlist on Spotify like my client, Firstbase Studio’s one above show’s how you can think outside the box and add another touchpoint to your audience. Get cretaive with this, you could use this as a way to collaborate with someone or for a particular theme or occasion. I recommend creating some on-brand cover art and sharing on social media as another way to encourage your audience to get to know you.

5. Add a chatbot plugin

What better way to create an engaging experience than to open a direct line of communication with your client. Now I know you may be thinking a chatbot can be salesy or on the flip side, impersonal, but chatbots have evolved a lot.

Personally I love Videoask, since it allows you to create a video welcome message, which allows you to create a more personalised experience and thus connect better with your customer. Instantly a website visitor can jump on your website, see your face and instantly connect with you without you even having to be online.

You can set your chatbot have these set up in a way that they can get in contact regardless of their timezone, and you can create an autoresponder that you’ll be in touch soon with their request. This creates another layer of personalisation and engagement than what a simple contact page can provide.
